To be evaluated, you must register with both Denver Pet Partners and Pet Partners. If you have not yet registered with Pet Partners, we will send you instructions to do so. When both registrations are complete, you will be scheduled for a 45-minute time slot.
If this is your first Pet Partners evaluation ever, you must have completed the Pet Partners Handler Training class online or in-person and passed the knowledge assessment within the past two years. If it has been more than two years since you took the class, you must take it again.
If you have previously passed a team evaluation and your registration is still valid or it has not been more than two years since it expired, you are not required to take the Pet Partners Handler Training class again.
Our DPP evaluator team is offering evaluations for dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, horses and donkeys (equines), miniature pigs, llamas and alpacas (camelids).
You must bring the following items to the evaluation. If you do not, you will not be evaluated:
- Completed Handler’s Questionnaire
- Animal’s current rabies vaccination certificate or vaccination records from veterinarian
- For new teams: Certificate of course completion (for either the online or instructor-led handler training course).
- For renewing teams: Pet Partners or Denver Pet Partners badge
- If an animal weighing 15lbs or less is to be carried: Towel or blanket
- Acceptable collar or harness and leash (see this document for more information on Pet Partners’ approved equipment)
- Animal’s brush (it must be soft with no metal bristles)
- An appropriate treat for your animal for the final evaluation exercise. DPP does not provide treats for this exercise. No other treats are allowed in the evaluation room.
The evaluation is considered a simulated visit. The animal should be groomed, and the handler should be dressed appropriately as if they were going on a volunteer visit. Jeans, shorts, and open-toed shoes are not allowed.
Dogs cannot be fed a raw-food diet or living in a household in which other dogs are on a raw food diet.
If you score Not Ready, you can retest as early as the next day if there is an available evaluation.
Fee: $25 per handler-animal team
Cancellation/Refund Policy: You must register and pay for the evaluation at least 3 weeks before the scheduled date. We do not provide refunds for cancellations or for missed classes/evaluations. Non-refunded fees will be considered a donation to our nonprofit organization. Thank you!
